Web front-end for classic Lawbyte available

A new version of Lawbyte that runs in a standard web browser window is now available on a beta-test basis. It is called Lawbyte .NET, and will run side-by-side with the next release of Lawbyte on your existing data*.

Lawbyte .NET will allow your users to securely perform a modest subset of tasks from any machine connected to the Internet. The list of Lawbyte functions supported in the new version is increasing daily - your suggestions on which functions would be most valuable to you in this version would be much appreciated. Lawbyte .NET is also beginning to support mobile devices such as WAP mobile phones, Pocket PCs, Blackberry etc, so your fee earners can check the diary and post time entries from literally anywhere.

Security is a high priority with this application, and a strong authentication and user-rights system has been built into the new version from the ground up. Lawbyte .NET will also support a secure server certificate, enabling access through 128 bit SSL (https://), the same encryption system typically used for online banking.

Also supported is the ability for your clients to log on to a secure site with their surname and client number and view a subset of their case management data. This of course can be disabled if not required, or limited to certain clients or even individual matters and events.

We are currently recruiting practices to participate in a beta test (a "dry run") of Lawbyte .NET - if you are interested then please call us on 01253 290300 and ask for Richard or Tom.

    *on later builds of 8.06

Further to this version, a complete re-write of Lawbyte is under way which will eventually replace the MS Access based Lawbyte product. Sites willing to beta-test this application will be needed towards the end of 2006 - watch this space.

    Angela asks:

Do you have any idea yet when this will be available, and (mayne more important) how much will it cost - either to brand new Lawbyte users or to existing people who want to changeover?
