Installing the Lawbyte on a network is easy once you know how so here goes:
First off you need to ensure that you have a licence for each workstation that will be using Lawbyte. Contact us if you are unsure how many licences you have, but each workstation will require it's own unique registration code the first time Lawbyte is used.
After you've sorted that one, install Lawbyte on each workstation exactly the same as you would on a single user system. The 8.04 and upwards cd's all have a menu system that includes full instructions on how to do this.
You then need to share the directory containing your live matters.mdb file. As standard this is c:\program files\lawbyte\data or you can move it to a shared directory on your server, if you have one. Don't forget that the everybody will need full access to this directory not just 'read only'. Then map this directory as a virtual drive letter on each workstation. If using a server it's best to do it with a login script.
Now login to Lawbyte on each workstation and click in the middle of the 'A' of the Lawbyte logo on the main menu. This will display another screen titled 'Run a Form or Query'. On this is a button labeled 'Parameters' click it and the parameter setup screen will be displayed. Enter the full path to the matters file in the 'Matters Location' box. Click on the 'De-Attach' tables button and wait for the OK prompt, then click on the 'Attach Tables' button and again wait for the OK prompt. It's normal for this to take a minute or so on a network setup.
Finally close down the 'Parameters' and 'Run Form or Query' windows and do a Client Enquiry to check it works.
I've assumed a reasonable level of network knowledge when writing this as sharing directories and mapping network drives is different on each version of windows. If your not sure how to do that on your particular network - just ask.
