  • New site!

Well after finally getting tired of the lack of any ability to update the Edgebyte website without hacking HTML, I took the opportunity to install Community Server on our public web server in a spare minute. Here's my reasons for choosing Community Server:

First off, I like the look of some UI features in Community Server and I think we here at Edgebyte will be able to learn a thing or two during the ongoing development of Lawbyte .NET. This system uses a very similar architecture (C# 2005, ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005) to what Lawbyte .NET is based on.

Second, Community Server supports blogs (which can be used to host news snippets), integrated forums, file downloads/uploads, all tied into the same user authentication system.

Third, you can write custom apps for CS, if I've understood what I've been reading. One such app that I want to write is a web service to support our Lawbyte licensing model. There will be several clients for issuing licenses - one for here on this website, one for our own use when a client rings up, and an automated one that will run on the new VoIP phone system.

So, enjoy your new website.  If you have any questions or comments, pop on to the forums and post a question. One of us will answer it as soon as we can.

PS on the subject of the forum, I've copied over some of the more important posts but not yet copied everything I want over. Also, users of the old www.lawbyte.info forums will have to re-register on this system unfortunately.
